COFFEE TABLE

With a passion for coming up with unique and outside-the-box ideas, while also experimenting with new processes and technique, I designed and manufactured this contemporary style coffee-table. 
The task was to make a full portfolio which clearly shows the whole designing process and the end finalised piece of furniture. I constructed my own brief gathered by my client; to design and manufacture a contemporary style coffee table to fit the average sized living room with incorporated extra storage/surface space.
I was extremely happy with outcome of my piece of furniture; I felt the contrast between the American black walnut and European oak worked in harmony especially once I applied osmo oil as the finish which had really brought out the deep and richness within the two timbers. The warmth between the brass coloured screw cups worked extremely well with the warming colour of the osmo coated oak and gave the overall piece a very homely touch.
As much as I was very happy with my design I figured there was still room for improvement; this would be in the inclusion of more walnut where I would have loved to have included some walnut strips/inlays within the oak legs/supports to further enhance that contrast and break up the solidity within the oak as I was intending for a more elegant and contrasting piece.
